Dane County authorities say a 41-year-old Monroe man was traveling south on Highway 69 near Henry Road at a high rate of speed on his 2008 Kawasaki ZX600P motorcycle when he lost control of the motorcycle and crossed the center line, striking a car head on. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver, a 36-year-old female from Mazomanie, was transported to UW Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A head-on collision occured between a tanker truck and a pickup on Highway 69 near mile marker 170, claiming the life of the driver of the pickup. The tanker truck driver was uninjured. Firefighters, EMA and Hazmat crews responded to the scene. Highway 69 was closed for four hours while the scene was cleared, but has since reopened.

Ronald D. Darnell was driving his car on Highway 69 when a pickup crossed the centerline and collided with him head-on. Darnell died at the scene. The driver of the pickup, Joel Brandon Neider, 39, was driving while impaired. Once he was released from a hospital in Phoenix, he was charged with manslaughter, seven counts of felony endangerment, three counts of DUI and felony criminal damage.
