Two people were hospitalized after crashing a vehicle into a piece of construction equipment on the east side of Columbus early Wednesday morning. According to Columbus police, the driver of an SUV traveling south on North Cassady Avenue in the area of East 13th Street was attempting to go around a backhoe that was backing into the street when the SUV struck the back of the piece of equipment at about 2:57 a.m. Police say the backhoe was backing out of a construction project in the area when the crash occurred.

A pedestrian is dead after a two car accident on Highway 51 near Crystal Springs. "I was waiting for the flag man to release me so I can pass and a truck came over a hill and hit me from the back and pushed me in the ditch. My car ran over the flag man," says the driver of the Chevrolet Caprice that hit 39-year-old Garvin Barnes. The driver doesn't want his name released. Barnes was directing traffic while workers were paving Highway 51. He works for Dickerson and Barnes Asphalt Paving Company.

Maryland State Police troopers say two people have died following a three-car crash on I-81 in Williamsport. The State Police says it happened at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities say an investigation found that a 2004 Jeep slowed due to a backup related to road construction. Troopers say the driver of a 2010 Ford pickup truck failed to notice the backed up traffic and hit the Jeep, which erupted in flames. The truck then hit a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer.

A car driven by a 37-year-old woman from New Britain crashed into a construction site Tuesday morning on Trout Brook Drive, north of Farmington Avenue, police said. The driver, Ewa Pedzich, and two construction workers sustained minor injuries in the 10:54 a.m. crash, police said. The construction crew was in the southbound lanes on Trout Brook Drive. They work for a company contracted by the Metropolitan District Commission.

A crash involving three trucks shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Hendricks County Wednesday morning and injured a construction worker. The crash happened at the 66 mile marker, near State Road 267. Indiana State Police dispatchers said westbound lanes were shut down around 10:10 a.m. They reopened around 11:45 a.m. ISP officials also said an Indiana Department of Transportation truck was involved in the wreck. The truck was in the area to fill potholes and a worker was hit by a vehicle, suffering minor injuries.

Police in Hickory say a woman was killed when she wrecked her car after driving off from a traffic stop. Police report that 39-year-old Crystal Annette Jones Port of Morganton was killed Wednesday night after her car crashed into a crane at a construction site in Long View. According to police, an officer stopped Port near an intersection shortly after 11 p.m. When the officer asked the woman to turn off her engine and step out of the vehicle, she sped away.

An accident that left two men dead is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Maverick Drilling, the company the men worked for. The two oil field workers were electrocuted Monday when they were struck by a fallen electrical line in far southwest Houston, authorities said. A crane apparently hit the line about 2:30 p.m. in a field along the 16800 block of Blue Ridge near FM 2234, near Fort Bend County. Paramedics gave the men CPR as an ambulance rushed them to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, officials said, where they died.

Vermont State Police say that Interstate 91 southbound is open again in Brattleboro, Vt. The interstate had been closed at Exit 3 southbound at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday due to a tractor trailer accident. The vehicle was off the roadway in a construction zone. Police say the tractor trailer has been removed. The road was reopened at about 11:20 a.m. Traffic had been diverted at Exit 3. The driver of the tractor trailer unit wasn’t hurt.

Interstate 95 South is closed near exit 93 in North Stonington because of a crash involving a Department of Transportation vehicle. Crews were patching potholes on the highway when a minivan entered the work zone at a high rate of speed and crashed into one of the DOT trucks, according to a department spokesperson. At least 3 people were seriously injured, according to state police.

A long-time Natick town employee was killed and a second town employee was injured Tuesday night while both were participating in the emergency repair of a water line, an incident that was witnessed by four co-workers and a Natick police officer on a paid detail, officials said.
