State police are trying to determine why a van crashed into a state Department of Transportation truck in an accident that seriously injured three people on Interstate 95 in North Stonington.

Crews were patching potholes on the highway when a minivan entered the work zone at a high rate of speed and crashed into one of the DOT trucks, according to a department spokesperson.
At least 3 people were seriously injured, according to state police.
The driver of the minivan, later identified as Glen Kelley 63, was seriously injured and flown by Lifestar to the hospital. None of the DOT workers was injured. The other two passengers in the van were later identified as Lydia Diaz 37, and Evette Arias 53.
According to state police, a third vehicle was involved in the crash. State police accident reconstruction teams were called to the scene to investigate.
