One person is dead after a crash on the Northbound 405 freeway in Gardena early Sunday morning. A woman in her early 20's, later identified as Stephanie Hernandez Valerio, 21, and a man were pushing their disabled car on the NB 405 just north of the Harbor (110) Freeway when the woman was struck by a car that came up behind them, the California Highway Patrol Officer said. Paramedics arrived on scene and declared the woman dead. It was not immediately known if alcohol played a role in the incident but speed was a factor, officials said.

Mississippi authorities are searching for the driver in a hit-and-run accident resulted in the death of a Gordo man early Sunday. Mississippi Highway Patrol officers believe that Cason Park, 25, had experienced car trouble and was walking on the side of U.S. Highway 82 at when he was struck, said police. The driver left the scene, which happened at 4 a.m. in Oktibbeha County. Officers found a disabled Chevrolet Impala registered to one of Park's family members about a quarter mile west from the site of the accident, police said.

A child has died and his mother was hurt in a hit-and-run collision allegedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon. The crash was reported about 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 66, near Sam Ridley Parkway. The child, his mother and his sister were outside their car changing a flat tire when they were struck. The suspected driver, identified as 33-year-old Tina L. Wilson, kept driving in a Chevrolet Cavalier after the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

A motorist was injured fatally Wednesday when he pulled into the breakdown lane on Route 146 and got out of his vehicle, according to state police. State police said the driver stepped into the first lane of traffic and was struck by a tractor-trailer. The man was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital. He declined to identify the victim, saying that officers were still trying to reach relatives. He said the truck driver was Michael Hammond, 45, of Warwick, an employee of UPS. No charges were contemplated, police said.

State police say a tractor-trailer struck and killed a Florida man who was standing on the New Jersey Turnpike. The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound express lanes in Englewood. Authorities say 60-year-old Izhak Shvarz, of Lake Mary, Fla., was standing next to his vehicle and was partially in the right lane when he was hit by the truck. No tickets have been issued and the accident remains under investigation.

One man was killed and a Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputy squad car was hit after a messy overnight crash around 1:40 a.m. Sunday on eastbound I-30 near Dolphin Road. Authorities say a man was killed on scene after he was struck by up to two cars. The man was driving a blue 2006 Honda Civic with no passengers, and crashed into the retaining wall of the left side HOV lane just past Dolphin Road. The driver then left the vehicle, in an unknown condition, and attempted to walk or run westbound along I-30.

Tampa Fire Rescue officials say two people were hurt in a two-car crash on Interstate 4 Thursday night. It happened near I-4 eastbound and North 22nd Street. Officials say one car, with a man and woman inside, was stopped on the side of the interstate with a flat tire. Investigators say a second car crashed in to the back of the stopped car, and one of the cars caught fire. Tampa Fire Rescue officials say one person in the stopped car was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. The second person in that car was not hurt.

Authorities said the man whose truck was hit by a train Thursday night is facing a DUI charge. The light rail Sprinter was carrying 37 passengers when it struck an empty truck near Vista. The driver of the truck said it stalled on the tracks and he apparently tried to warn the oncoming Sprinter train by waving it down. However, the train struck and heavily damaged the truck. None of the people on the train or the vehicle driver were hurt.

An Amtrak train struck a vehicle near Harlem Avenue on the border of west suburban Riverside and Berwyn on Thursday, delaying Metra BNSF line trains. The Amtrak train was running on the BNSF tracks when it hit a vehicle near Harlem Avenue about 2:30 p.m., Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said. Metra’s BNSF line trains between Chicago and Aurora use those same tracks, and were temporarily stopped, the rail agency said. The crash happened near the Harlem Metra station in Riverside.

Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed one man and critically injured another man as they helped change a tire on a metro Atlanta freeway. DeKalb County police say two women had called the men to help them change the tire when the men were struck by a pickup. It happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on westbound Interstate 20, near Panola Road. Police said a pickup truck they said was not maintaining its lane struck the men and kept driving. A second car followed the truck until the driver was pulled over.
