GHENT, N.Y. -- A 26-year-old Minnesota woman has died after she crashed her SUV after she was pulled over by sheriff's deputies in Upstate New York and then sped away.
The accident happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday on Route 9 in the town of Ghent, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office said. A deputy pulled over an SUV that was driving in the wrong lane.
As the deputy walked toward her SUV, the sheriff's office said, the driver, Kasandra Solverson, sped away.
A 57-year-old Rhode Island man was killed in a two-car crash on Route 9 in Hadley Thursday morning.
Joseph A. Arruda, of Bristol, R.I., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred near the Shell gasoline station at 73 Russell St. about 9:40 a.m., according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
Arruda was westbound in a Mercedes sedan when his vehicle apparently crossed the double-yellow center line and struck the back driver’s side of a Honda sport utility vehicle driven by a Hadley man, according to the district attorney’s office.

Police say the minivan Salcedo was driving west when it struck some sand-filled barrels, a Jersey barrier, and rolled onto its side in the eastbound lane where it hit another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was not hurt.
A 27-year-old man died and two others were injured Friday night in a four-car collision on state Route 9 near Lake Stevens. The crash, which involved four cars, occurred just north of State Route 204 at approximately 10:45 p.m. A car headed north on the roadway crossed the yellow line and crashed into an oncoming car, head on. Two other vehicles then crashed into the wreckage. The causing driver, who became trapped in his car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a man in his 20s, has not been identified.
