Driver seriously injured after his truck crashes into tractor trailer on Route 9 in Newton, Massachusetts

A driver survived a horrifying crash on Route 9 in Newton Monday morning as his pickup truck ended up wedged underneath a tractor-trailer. The accident happened just before 7 a.m. in the westbound lanes outside the Chestnut Hill Mall. Police stated that the driver of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado hit some black ice and could not stop in time to avoid hitting the tractor-trailer which was crossing Route 9 at the time of the accident. Several firefighters were called in to help free him from the pickup with the Jaws of Life. State Police said the pickup driver was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with serious injuries. His name has not been released, but investigators said he is 24-years-old and from Roslindale. The tractor-trailer driver, a 34-year-old man from Barre, was not hurt.
