A woman has been hospitalized with serious injuries after being hit by a driver Wednesday morning.

The woman was riding her bike at 12th Avenue and Bannock Street when a man driving a car went around a vehicle that was stopped at a light and hit her in the bike lane.

The driver, who police identified as Dale Campbell, 52, allegedly kept going but a witness followed him and was able to identify him for police a few blocks away.

Campbell was taken into custody and is being held for investigation of vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

A driver was killed after crashing into an 18-wheeler Wednesday morning.

Investigators said the driver of the 18-wheeler was driving on Farrell Road near East Hardy Road in Northeast Harris County around 1 a.m.

According to investigators, the truck driver started slowing down to turn off of the feeder road. A man that was driving an SUV behind the 18-wheeler couldn't stop in time and crashed into the back of the truck.

The driver in the SUV died on the scene.

Eighty riders – more than half of those in the men’s professional division racing in the multi-stage Tour of the Gila – were involved in a crash Wednesday that resulted in dozens of injuries and at least one man being airlifted to a Tucson hospital.

Participants said it was unlike any crash they’d ever witnessed.

Jack Brennan, the race’s director, said about 150 riders comprising the men’s professional division set off from Silver City just after 9 a.m. Wednesday to begin the tour’s first 90-mile leg to Mogollon.

An early morning crash on I-77 southbound caused by a wrong-way driver claimed a life and closed a large section of the Interstate for hours Wednesday. Police said a driver entered the freeway, possibly from Fleet Avenue, going the wrong way and collided with another vehicle. Jack W. Dixon, age 48 and of Eastlake was driving the car that was struck and was pronounced dead on the scene, Cleveland Police said.

Police say 28 New Jersey students have been taken to a hospital as a precaution after their school bus was involved in a minor crash. North Brunswick Police Lt. Gina Braconi says the accident happened on Route 130 around 8 a.m. Wednesday. She says that all 28 students on board were taken for checkups after some complained of pain. None have injuries that are considered life-threatening. Braconi says the students were from North Brunswick but she's not sure which school.

An elderly Lincoln woman died after a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday evening. Authorities say Viola Garvey, 82, was pronounced dead after the accident in the 2300-block of Woodlawn Road in Lincoln.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lincoln Police Department and the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Division.

A 61-year-old city man died in a car crash on Tuesday evening at Bloomfield Avenue and Market Street, authorities said.

Richard Wozny was driving a 2008 Kia car when he sideswiped a 2013 Toyota Corolla stopped at a red light on Market Street at 6:11 p.m. Tuesday, Clifton Police Detective Lt. Michael Sweeney said. Wozny continued eastbound on Market Street into the intersection, struck a NJ Transit bus and then crashed into a utility pole.

One man is dead and a second was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash near Lucasville.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Jared W. Akin, 26, of Portsmouth, was driving a 1990 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck eastbound on state Route 728 when he drove left of center, striking a 2002 Pontiac Aztek.

Akin transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center where he later died, according to troopers.

A skydiver has died in Northern California after colliding with another diver in midair.

San Joaquin County sheriff’s Deputy Les Garcia says the two men collided about 1:30 p.m. during a parachuting trip and that one of the men fell to his death.

Garcia says the parachutists had flown out of the Parachute Center at the Lodi Airport.

The surviving parachutist suffered minor leg injuries, he says.

The Federal Aviation Administrations was investigating the incident.

One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after being struck by two vehicles in southeast Charlotte Tuesday.

The incident happened just after 9:30 p.m. on the 5400 block of Central Avenue.

Police said Donnis Patterson was crossing Central Avenue when he was hit by a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Marva Bradley.

According to investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Bradley was traveling in the outbound lane on Central Avenue and immediately stopped.
