34-year-old Robert Souza was driving a PT Cruiser in the far right lane of I-95 at about 9:00 p.m., when he careened across all of the lanes and entered the median. The vehicle then collided with a tree, overturned, and caught fire. Thanks to the help of a state trooper and some good Samaritans, Souza, his 24-year-old girlfriend Lindsey Clark, and her 5-year-old daughter Savannah Clunan were all pulled from the wreckage, though Souza and Lindsey are in critical condition and Savannah sustained a skull fracture but is expected to survive. Unfortunately, one occupant could not be rescued.

An unidentified man was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-95 when he collided with a northbound semi truck driven by Francisco E. Corona, 30, at about 2:19 a.m.. The collision sent his car into the shoulder, where it caught fire with the man trapped inside. Another vehicle, driven by Jerry A. Webster, 36, ran into an axle that had fallen off of Corona's truck, but he was uninjured. The wrong-way driver was killed by the crash and ensuing flames, and Corona was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Witnesses to a crash on Interstate 95 pulled a woman from a burning pickup truck Monday afternoon, state police said. Amy Strong, 20, of Hampton was driving on I-95 when her 2008 Ford Ranger left the road, struck construction equipment and caught fire around 12:25 p.m., police said. Witnesses smashed out the rear window of the truck and pulled Strong from the fiery wreck, police said. Strong was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Police are investigating the crash.

Two people were injured, one seriously, when a tractor trailer and a passenger car crashed on I-95 Sunday night, flipping the 18-wheeler on its side and setting it on fire. All southbound lanes of I-95 were closed in the area of Brooklyn Bridge Road in Laurel, near the Howard County-Prince George's County line, according to police. Two patients were transported for treatment, one to a local hospital with minor injuries, one to a trauma center with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The tractor trailer was carrying produce, police said.

A stretch of Interstate 95 in Flagler County reopened Tuesday evening after being closed for more than 13 hours when a driver was killed in a fiery crash that damaged the roadway, officials say. Florida Highway Patrol crews were called around 4 a.m. Tuesday to I-95 northbound near Palm Coast Parkway in Palm Coast in reference to a crash. Troopers said a big rig transporting fuel and a tractor-trailer collided. The truck carrying fuel exploded, killing the driver Christopher Mceuen, 41, of Jacksonville according to the FHP.

The scene of a deadly tanker crash on Interstate 95 just south of 45th Street is now clear following a night of traffic backups on the interstate, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. All lanes were reopened just before 11:00 p.m. Friday night, close to seven hours after the accident occurred. Warner Letterman, 41, of Greenacres died after the front tire of the septic truck he was driving blew out causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a tree, said an FHP spokesperson.

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident late Saturday that claimed two lives on Interstate 95’s northbound HOV lanes in Springfield, a police spokeswoman said Sunday. Two people were killed when their four-door vehicle ran off the right side of the road near Exit 170 about 8:30 p.m., hit an unoccupied backhoe in an inactive construction zone, and caught fire, a state police spokeswoman said. Two bodies were removed from the vehicle, which was destroyed by fire, and taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner. No identification of the victims had been made as of 3 p.m.
