A Bellevue man alleged to have collided with a motorcycle rider while driving high on marijuana has been charged with vehicular homicide. Caleb Floyd, 33, cut off motorcyclist Blake Gaston on Oct. 4. Gaston, 23, struck the side of Floyd’s car and suffered catastrophic injuries. Floyd admitted to smoking marijuana two hours before the crash. Prosecutors contend a blood draw taken hours after the crash found levels of THC – the drug in marijuana – in Floyd’s blood to be nearly twice the legal limit. At 6 p.m.
Harvey was under the influence of alcohol when she crashed on Vanderbilt Road, killing a 10 year-old passenger. Three other children and another adult were also inside the vehicle at the time. She will serve a total of 20 years behind bars.
A 26-year-old Auburn man is under investigation for vehicular assault after two passengers in his car were injured in a collision on Interstate 5 just south of South 272nd Street. Washington State Patrol troopers say the driver was likely speeding and under the influence of intoxicants when he lost control of the 2007 White Nissan Maxima he was driving. The car left the roadway, spun around and slammed into the guardrail at 3:42 Sunday morning. Patrol officers said the driver and a 50-year-old female passenger were transported to Highline Community Hospital.
Samuel Sampson was high on meth amphetamine and speeding down I-405 in Bellevue when he crashed into Ian Beckford. Sampson's wife, Stacy Abele, was in the car with him when they crashed. She told KIRO 7 he was on a suicide mission and hit speeds of 130 mph. Sampson and Abele only suffered minor injuries. Beckford's family was left wiping away tears Monday in the courtroom. A 22-year-old Bellingham man may face vehicular-assault charges after a multiple-injury accident late Saturday north of Bellingham. The man was driving northbound on Noon Road just after 11 p.m. when he failed to stop at the intersection with East Smith Road, colliding with a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a 49-year-old Everson woman. Both vehicles were totaled. The Trailblazer driver, its two passengers and the driver of the Isuzu were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham. Another passenger in the Trailblazer was injured but not hospitalized.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Roger R. Haines, 48, was impaired by drugs when the 1999 Mercury Mountaineer he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer near Milepost 20 on southbound Interstate 5, south of Woodland. His wife, Teresa Haines, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. The couple have two sons. He appeared Tuesday in a wheelchair in front of Judge Scott Collier. His left foot was amputated about a month after the crash, due to a bone infection, he said.
One person died Wednesday when a vehicle lost control on I-5 in Federal Way about 12:20 p.m. July 31. A Honda Accord was traveling northbound on I-5 to the eastbound State Route 18 ramp. The vehicle lost control and rolled several times. Both occupants were ejected, and the vehicle caught fire. The passenger, Billy Powell Jr., 21, was declared dead. The driver, a 27-year-old female from Shelton, was transported to St. Francis Hospital with injuries.
A man who was drunk when he crashed a powerboat into a construction barge, killing a bride-to-be and her fiance's best man, was sentenced Tuesday to two years in jail.John had pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in the July 2013 deaths of two friends, Lindsey Stewart of Piermont and Mark Lennon of Pearl River, both 30. Stewart was to have been married two weeks later. John, groom-to-be Brian Bond and two others were injured. John had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
