Northbound lanes of Interstate 469 were back open between Maplecrest and State Road 37 Thursday morning following a crash that involved as many as five vehicles.

Motorists had been asked to avoid the area as all lanes were closed. There were no serious injuries reported.

White out conditions and icy roads combined with bitter cold temperatures made the morning commute treacherous in some areas.

Two cars were totaled but no one was hurt after a school bus apparently lost control on icy roads in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning. The bus was carrying 29 students from Jenny Lind Elementary School at the time of the accident. According to a witness on the scene, the bus was going down a hill on Dowling Avenue North near Sixth Street North when it slid into two cars. The two cars involved were totaled and the front arm of the bus was sheared off, our photographer says, but no one was hurt. The students were put on a different bus and taken to school.

Crashes caused by freezing rain and icy road conditions closed lanes on Interstate 84 west of Pendleton on Monday morning. One of the crashes involved a FedEx trailer that split open at 6 a.m., spilling freight and blocking eastbound traffic, according to Oregon State Police. A commercial truck traveling behind the FedEx trailer also crashed. Neither driver was injured. The left eastbound lane is now open for traffic while workers continue to pick up debris and clear the scene.

A New Britain man has died following a two-car crash on Route 44 in Barkhamsted late Friday night, state police said.

According to state police, 33-year-old Erik Bass of New Britain was driving northbound on Eddy Road near Route 44 when he lost control and skidded out into the intersection, striking Mohamed Amer Almasoudi’s car, which was traveling eastbound on Route 44.

A tour bus struck a jackknifed tractor-trailer collided on an icy western Vermont roadway, killing the bus driver, police said Saturday.

Vermont State Police said the truck was stopped on state Route 22A in West Haven on Friday night when the bus crested a hill, lost control and careened into the guard rails and the trailer.

The bus driver, Darnell Hannah, 59, of Millstone, N.J., was trapped in the wreckage and died from his injuries, police said. Two of the remaining 31 people on board had moderate injuries and the rest had minor injuries, according to police.

A multi-vehicle crash shutdown all northbound lanes of the Blue Route in Delaware County for several hours Thursday morning.

The crash happened at about 5:15 a.m. along I-476 northbound at the off-ramp for Route 3.

The crash involved four vehicles, including a Pennsylvania State Trooper cruiser with two Troopers inside.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the Troopers were initially called to the scene for a one-car crash. The cruiser was pulled to the side of the road with its emergency lights on.

Ten persons were injured Thursday, four of them seriously, in a collision involving an NFTA Metro Bus, an SUV and a small car that was crushed, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

A 14-year-old girl was taken to Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo for treatment of her injuries, and three other people were being treated at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Six other persons were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police in Charlotte say a 28-year-old man was killed when he slid on a patch of ice in east Charlotte and hit a utility pole. He had been drinking at the time of the crash, police say.

According to police, Thomas Andrew Lyall, 28, hit the icy patch along the 2300 block of Eastway Drive around 3:01 a.m. Friday morning.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report says he lost control of the vehicle and slid sideways off the side of the road. The vehicle hit a snow bank and then hit a utility pole before flipping on its side.

A Whatcom County Fire District 7 SUV was damaged in a crash Tuesday morning, Feb. 11, when it slid on a patch of ice as it was responding to a crash, according to district officials.

Crews were responding to a rollover crash on an icy portion of Mountain View Road at North Star Road at about 9:30 a.m., when the SUV slid on a patch of ice on Mountain View and Church Road, assistant chief Larry Hoffman said. The SUV went off the road and crashed into the trees.

Police responded to the scene of a fatal car crash in Forest Hill on Tuesday morning. The crash happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate-20, near the intersection with Anglin Drive.

According to police at the scene, a driver lost control of his SUV and was ejected from the vehicle as it was spinning. His wife, who was a passenger in the SUV, managed to remain inside. But after the man hit the road, another passing vehicle came along and struck him on the ground.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
