All southbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the Tallassee exit (mile marker 25 in Macon County) will remain closed to traffic for the rest of the day Tuesday, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Crews worked for much of the day to remove a burned 18-wheeler from a bridge and the waters below it. Following the vehicle's removal, the roadway will remain closed until inspectors can do an assessment report on the bridge.

One person died in the crash. He was later identified as Gerald Eugene Kess, Sr., 62. The cause of the crash also remains under investigation.

A toddler was hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash in South Fulton County on Friday. According to Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened after a Lincoln Navigator, carrying six people, traveling north on I-85 hit the median. Authorities say a three-year-old child was ejected during the accident and landed in the opposite direction. The child was transported to Egleston in serious condition.

One person is dead and two others were taken to a hospital after a big rig flipped on its side on northbound I-85 in Gwinnett County near Steve Reynolds Boulevard in unincorporated Duluth.

The accident occurred at 7:05 a.m. Thursday, after a tractor trailer that collided with another vehicle flipped on its side.

There is one confirmed fatality, who was later identified as Eric Murray, 39. Two other people, later identified as Bryant Garrott, 62, and Maria Zeelaya Torres, 44, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of a vehicle thrown from an interstate overpass in Opelika Friday morning has died, Opelika police confirm. Benjamin Rice, 32, of Lanett, was not wearing his seatbelt as he drove to his job at Auburn University, information from Opelika police and the county coroner suggests. Around 7:50a ct, Rice was driving southbound on Interstate 85 when his 2004 Ford F-150 flipped near the highway's overpass with South Long Street. The vehicle came to rest on the bridge's guardrail.

The truck driver killed Wednesday in a fatal wreck that shutdown northbound lanes of I-85 in Spaghetti Junction for hours has been identified as 33-year-old Corey Hart of Lithia Springs.

One person has died after a fiery crash on Interstate 85 in Troup County Thursday morning, the Georgia State Patrol confirms. Authorities say the crash happened after one of the tractor trailers rear ended another. The driver of the rear truck died at the scene. That individual's name has not been released pending notification of the family. The driver of the first truck, identified as 41-year-old Adrian Dejuan Tillman of High Point, North Carolina, was injured and transported to West Central Health Center.

One woman is dead after a multiple-vehicle collision on Interstate 85 southbound Thursday morning.

The accident closed all lanes at Interstate 285 for a couple of hours.

According to preliminary reports, the woman was killed after being struck by her car while examining the car which had been forced into oncoming traffic after striking a guardrail.

Authorities are still investigating this incident.

A 32-year-old man was killed in a crash Thursday night. According to the highway patrol, the crash happened at 9:42 p.m. Thursday in the southbound lane of Interstate 85 at mile marker 102, which is in the Blacksburg city limits. To see pictures of the scene, click here. Troopers say a 2012 Dodge pick-up was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a 1995 Mercury, overturned, and landed in the median. Both of the truck's occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Neither were wearing seat belts according to troopers.

A wreck involving several cars backed up traffic for miles on Interstate 85 southbound Monday morning in Spartanburg County.

The wreck happened near the 62 mile marker, which is near the Highway 290 exit, at 6:25 a.m.

Troopers said a vehicle headed southbound hit the brakes due to traffic on the interstate.

That car was rear-ended which caused a chain reaction that ended up involving 11 cars, troopers said.

A MARTA bus and three other vehicles were involved in a Friday morning crash on southbound I-85 in Clayton County, according to GDOT.

A MARTA Police spokesperson said that it initially appears that the bus struck a disabled vehicle on I-85 before the Old National Highway exit. The bus driver was not injured and there were no passengers aboard his vehicle at the time, Harris said.

There is no word on the condition of people in the other vehicles.

The two right lanes of the roadway are affected by the collision, according to GDOT.
