A driver, whose vehicle veered off the road and plunged through brambles into a creek front first, had to be extricated in a tricky emergency operation. The car dove into the creek in the 6700 block of 35th Avenue Northeast, north of Keizer, about 10:30 a.m. Fire crews were called to the scene to rescue the driver, who was trapped in the vehicle. Before they could get him out of the car, they had to clear the tangle of brush from the hillside. Crews used ladders to climb down to the car. Within 10 minutes, emergency personnel got him out.

A school bus driver was swaying with poor balance and smelling of alcohol when Winona County authorities responded to a crash. The bus, with five children on board, had gone off the wrong side of Fern Valley Road near Altura and crashed into trees. Karl A. Herber, 54, of Rollingstone, Minn., was charged with three counts of drunken driving and child endangerment after registering a .09 blood-alcohol level when tested more than two hours after the crash Tuesday afternoon, the Winona County Chief Deputy.

Police said one person has died in a head-on crash following a wrong-way driver's trip down U.S. 75. Richardson police were following a wrong-way driver in a silver Nissan Murano who was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 75/Central Expressway around 4 a.m. Monday. Police say the Murano driver clipped a vehicle traveling northbound in the 9000 block of North Central Expressway and kept going. No one was injured. A short time later, just north of Hall Street in Dallas, the driver of the Murano crashed head-on into a tan Toyota Camry.

Two people were injured during a hit-and-run collision early Monday morning in Tempe that led to the arrest of one suspect, according to Tempe police. Officers were called to the area near University Drive and Loop 101 shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday after receiving reports that a pickup truck had collided with a Corvette, and that the truck’s driver had fled on foot, said a Tempe police spokeswoman.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrested a driver in an overnight hit-and-run crash on Interstate 95 South. A driver hit a car at about 1:15 a.m. Monday on I-95, just north of Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. FHP said no one was seriously hurt, but the truck connected to the crash was later found. The driver was arrested and charged with DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident. FHP has not released the name of the person facing charges.

A suspected drunken driver was taken into custody after an accident in northeast Harris County. It happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday on E. FM 1960 near Timber Forest. Officials said a white pickup truck was going east on FM 1960 when he veered across the center line and hit another pickup traveling in the opposite direction. The second pickup rolled into a ditch. Officials said that driver broke his arm in the crash. Authorities said the driver of the truck that caused the crash failed DWI tests and was taken into custody.

A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a DUI suspect in Oxnard on Sunday, police said. The suspect was later arrested. Gerald Zoleta Garcia, 43, was hit and killed near Rose Avenue and Raiders Way shortly after 2 a.m. According to police, Garcia was one of two bicyclists riding southbound on Rose Avenue in the bicycle lane. The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Policarpio Diaz, was driving a black 2000 Volkswagen GTI.

A 39-year-old Colfax man was killed while snowmobiling when he crashed into a tree in Chippewa County. Jason D. Schauer died in a crash at 2284 Highway 40 in Howard that occurred about 2:40 a.m. Saturday. Two other people who were snowmobiling with Schauer, but on separate vehicles, were cited for being drunk while snowmobiling. The incident remains under investigation.

Authorities say three people have died in a wreck caused by a 28-year-old woman who was drinking on her birthday and drove the wrong way on Interstate 77 in Fairfield County. Investigators said Takeya Taylor, of Columbia, was driving the wrong way around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of I-77 about five miles from Winnsboro when she hit another vehicle head on. The coroner's office said Taylor was killed, along with the driver of the other car, 48-year-old Lisa Jefferson, and one of her passengers, 46-year-old Wallace Green. A second passenger in the car remains in the hospital.

A Winston-Salem woman was charged with DWI after a crash into a utility pole downed power lines early Wednesday morning. Heather Pearce, 29, was cited following the collision around 2:50 a.m. in the 2000 block of Hawthorne Road just north of Forsyth Medical Center. Pearce was evaluated for injuries and was released pending a March 20 court appearance. Winston-Salem police said Pearce was driving in a 1994 Lincoln Contintental when she left the road and hit a utility pole. The pole had extensive damage, leading to downed power lines, police said.
