Ventura County coroner's officials say the name of one of those killed when a car and train collided in Oxnard cannot be released because relatives still haven't been located.

Twenty-year-old driver Joel Anthony Arias and his 19-year-old passenger were killed Tuesday night when their car crashed into an Amtrak train. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police tell the Ventura County Star that the car was speeding and headed south on Rice Avenue Tuesday night when the crash occurred at Fifth Street.

Authorities say a Ventura educator was hit by a car and killed and a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Christopher Prewitt, assistant principal at DeAnza Academy of Technology and Arts, was jogging Sunday morning when he was struck.

The California Highway Patrol says Shante Chappell made an unsafe turn and ran into Prewitt.

At least 10 people were hurt, three of them critically, in a four-car crash on Highway 126 near Fillmore on Sunday. The crash happened around 1:20 p.m. at Hopper Canyon Road near train tracks. A cause for the crash was not immediately clear.One of the patients was taken by air to a local hospital. The conditions of the other victims were not immediately clear.

A 25-year-old Oxnard man was arrested Thursday for a hit-and-run incident in Ventura, police said. Police responded to a call on the 10500 block of Nopalito Street, where the suspect, identified as Andrew Ambriz, allegedly stole the unidentified victim's car, Ventura Police Department officials said. The victim, who knew Ambriz, tried to prevent him from leaving, but was struck as he drove east on Nopalito Street, police said. Ambriz stopped the car and fled on foot to a nearby residential area, witnesses told police.

A 2-year-old boy was struck by a car and killed outside an elementary school Wednesday, authorities said. The boy was walking with his mother after dropping off his sibling – a kindergarten student – at Ansgar Larsen Elementary School in Oxnard, the school’s superintendent said. The toddler’s mother was walking with the boy and stopped to talk to someone in the parking when a substitute teacher driving in struck the child. A spokesman with the Oxnard Police Department said the tragic incident “looks like it was a complete unintended accident” and there are “no criminal elements” at play.

A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a DUI suspect in Oxnard on Sunday, police said. The suspect was later arrested. Gerald Zoleta Garcia, 43, was hit and killed near Rose Avenue and Raiders Way shortly after 2 a.m. According to police, Garcia was one of two bicyclists riding southbound on Rose Avenue in the bicycle lane. The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Policarpio Diaz, was driving a black 2000 Volkswagen GTI.

One person is dead and another person injured after a vehicle slammed into an Amtrak train in Camarillo on Monday.

Authorities received a call about the collision at a standard railroad crossing at 5th Street and Las Posas Road at 10:49 a.m. Investigators believe a vehicle struck the train, and the impact sent the car into a parked pickup truck.

Three people were injured when a fishing boat ran aground in Anacapa Island off the coast of Port Hueneme Monday. The boat, known as Sea Biscuit, ran aground at Anacapa Island around 12:26 a.m., and was carrying about two dozen people. Authorities say those onboard the boat sent a distress signal. That's when Oxnard firefighters jumped on a Coast Guard boat from the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard and responded to the scene. It took crews two hours to tow the boat back to the mainland.
