Car accident kills Ventura educator.

Authorities say a Ventura educator was hit by a car and killed and a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Ventura Unified School District educator Christopher Prewitt was killed Sunday morning after being hit by a car, officials said.

Christopher Prewitt, assistant principal at DeAnza Academy of Technology and Arts, was jogging Sunday morning when he was struck.

The California Highway Patrol says Shante Chappell made an unsafe turn and ran into Prewitt.

Sheriff's officials say Chappell faces charges including vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs. She remains jailed in lieu of a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Before becoming assistant principal at DeAnza, Prewitt taught social studies at Foothill Technology High School and coached the girls water polo team at Buena High.
