A veteran skydiver who collided in midair with another jumper Sunday and fell to his death has been identified as Jordan Jor-El Janway, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Janway, 27, of San Diego went skydiving Sunday with two other people at a center east of Chula Vista. The Medical Examiner’s Office said the collision happened for unknown reasons during free fall.

He then failed to deploy his parachute.

The center’s owner, Buzz Fink, said Janway was likely knocked unconscious when he struck the other skydiver.

A La Mesa man killed Sunday evening when the off-road vehicle he was driving rolled over and crashed has been identified as Erik Scott Decker, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Decker, 33, was traveling alone in a residential area of unincorporated El Cajon when he drove a Polaris RZR all-terrain vehicle from a dirt road to the asphalt on Snow View Drive near Highway 80, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday. The Polaris overturned, partially throwing Decker from the driver’s seat and pinning him underneath the vehicle.

The passenger riding in a Mercedes-Benz who was killed after the driver lost control of the vehicle in La Jolla was identified Saturday as a 91-year-old local man.

Samuel Mayo Rinaker Jr. died at the scene of the crash at the intersection of La Jolla Scenic Drive and Soledad Mountain Road shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.

The 57-year-old driver of the 1993 Mercedes-Benz sedan in which Rinaker was riding lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons while proceeding northbound on La Jolla Scenic Drive, according to San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner's Office.

A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a car Friday Night in Point Loma. The crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Rosecrans Street, according to a watch commander with San Diego police. Officials initially reported the crash as a possible hit-and-run. However, police later discovered the driver in fact went to get help and then returned to the scene.

A suspected drunken driver has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter in the death of a 27-year-old woman who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Del Mar, authorities said Saturday. Rachel Anne Morrison and a friend were walking eastbound in a crosswalk at the intersection of Camino Del Mar and Coast Boulevard about 10:15 p.m. Friday when Christopher Stockmeyer, 41, allegedly ran a stop sign and struck her at a high rate of speed, according to sheriff's officials and the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Freeway traffic was snarled in the Inland Corridor Wednesday when an SUV involved in a four-vehicle crash came to rest on its top in the middle of Interstate 15, authorities said.

The crash on northbound I-15 just north of Bernardo Center Drive was reported at 7:34 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Three lanes of traffic were blocked due to the collision, Caltrans reported.

Paramedics took two patients from the crash scene to a hospital, a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher said, adding both were taken to Palomar Medical Center West in Escondido.

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash at northbound Interstate 5 and state Route 78 in Oceanside Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The 55-year-old rider from Carlsbad was speeding on I-5 about 9 a.m. when he appeared to make a hard right as though he was attempting to transition onto the eastbound SR-78, said CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt.

The Harley-Davidson Sportster hit dirt in the transition, lost control and crashed into a guardrail. The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, died at the scene.

A man who San Diego police said was traveling a high rate of speed was killed Friday in a crash in the Tijuana River Valley.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Monument Road, police Officer Frank Cali said.

The driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a raised asphalt curb and a rock. The 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup then rolled off the road, the officer said.

The man died at the scene from head injuries, Cali said.

His name was not yet released by the Medical Examiner’s Officer.

A pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash that closed most of south Interstate 5 in downtown San Diego for about 40 minutes Thursday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

A witness said the person was hit by a passing vehicle while running from the right shoulder of the freeway near Park Boulevard about 1:20 p.m., according to the CHP’s website.

Four of the freeway’s six lanes were closed and traffic was backed up to Old Town Avenue while the crash was investigated.

A 16-year-old Steele Canyon High School junior died in a head-on collision on his way to school Thursday, after getting into a minor crash about 24 hours earlier.

Julian Fraire of El Cajon, who got his provisional driving license in September, veered into oncoming traffic on Steele Canyon Road in Rancho San Diego about 7:25 a.m., authorities said.

The teen was driving a Chrysler Town and Country minivan southbound when he collided with a northbound Ford F450 pickup north of Vista Cielo Drive, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.
