A veteran skydiver who collided in midair with another jumper Sunday and fell to his death has been identified as Jordan Jor-El Janway, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Janway, 27, of San Diego went skydiving Sunday with two other people at a center east of Chula Vista. The Medical Examiner’s Office said the collision happened for unknown reasons during free fall.

He then failed to deploy his parachute.

The center’s owner, Buzz Fink, said Janway was likely knocked unconscious when he struck the other skydiver.

Fink said Janway may have been practicing an advanced technique known as tracking, which involves straightening the back and legs during free fall, when he hit his fellow jumper in the leg.

The other skydiver was not injured.

Janway was a master parachutist who had completed more than 1,000 jumps, said Fink, president of Airborne America Inc., which operates the skydive center east of Lower Otay Lake.
