Lorenza Simmons told dispatchers she was trying to avoid hitting the SUV in front of her when she swerved off the road and hit Kevin Johns, who was rushed to Delray Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m. Johns served the city of Fort Lauderdale for 29 years. Visitation is set for Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Sanctuary Church in Fort Lauderdale at 1400 North Federal Highway. His funeral will be held at the same location Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Three people were killed in a fiery crash in Boynton Beach. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating the crash. Investigators said a silver Ford car was traveling north on Military trail and struck a black Acura head-on. Upon collision, the driver of the Ford lost control and the vehicle bursted into flames.

The couple were heading northbound on their motorcycle just south of St. Lucie Boulevard around 9 p.m. on Sept. 27. The motorcycle rear-ended a van and the two were ejected from their bike, after which another vehicle ran over Lisa Maynard and left the scene. Lisa was pronounced dead at the scene, while Tom was pronounced dead after being brought to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.

Eliu Bravo, 38, of Port St. Lucie, the passenger of Mariela Arriaza's vehicle, was declared dead at the scene of the crash, and police are asking for anyone with information about the crash to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 561-357-4108.

A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured in a central Florida school bus crash. The St. Lucie County school bus was carrying seven students when 94-year-old Frances McNees crashed into it at an intersection. Officials say the boy was airlifted to a West Palm Beach hospital. He was suffering from a head injury.

One man is injured and a semi-truck on its side and on fire after a crash near Belle Glade on U.S. Route 27. One man was transported to hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Drivers should expect delays in the area.
