A woman in a battery-powered wheelchair is being treated at an area hospital after she collided with a Metrobus Thursday morning. Before noon, the U2 bus was turning right from Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue on to W Street in Southeast when it collided with the woman, who was crossing W Street. It's unclear who had the right of way. Police and D.C. Fire and EMS found 43-year-old Sherea Smith next to the bus. She was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital.

A woman died after a car crash in Wayne County Thursday. Mary K. Durbin Aken, 60, of New Philedelphia, was driving east on U.S. 250 west of County Road 44 and lost control, sliding sideways into the path of an oncoming car, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The oncoming car had a snow plow on the front, which entered Durbin Aken's car and struck her. Durbin Aken was pronounced dead on the scene. The other driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Two people were killed when their vehicles collided head-on Thursday afternoon. Ohio State Patrol troopers said the accident happened on U.S. Route 52 in Monroe Township about 3 p.m. Thursday. Troopers said one driver died at the scene and the other died on the way to the hospital. Investigators said both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles. The victims have been identified as Ryan Holland, and Garry Gloeckner. Route 52 has been closed at South Altman Drive since the time of the accident. There was no estimate of when it might reopen.

A Sylacauga man was killed and three other people were injured Thursday morning in a wreck in Oak Grove, according to Alabama State Troopers. Edward Dixon Guy, 81, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 1999 Toyota he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle on U.S. 280 in Oak Grove around 9 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from a Alabama State Troopers spokesman. The other vehicle was a 1991 Ford driven by a 30-year-old Hoover man. The driver and two passengers in the Ford were hospitalized with injuries.

A massive pile of salt used to clear icy roads has fallen on a worker at a suburban Philadelphia storage facility, crushing and killing him. Falls Township police say the accident happened Thursday afternoon hours before a massive snowstorm was set to arrive in the area. The 100-foot-tall pile of salt toppled over and trapped the man, who was working a backhoe. Rescue crews were dispatched but couldn't save him.

The FAA is continuing work today to remove the wreckage from a small plane crash yesterday in Alabaster. The upside down aircraft remains in the same spot where it crashed yesterday. Workers with the FAA were out today using a chain saw cutting down tree limbs trying to get to the plane. A crane will be needed to remove bigger trees that are trapping the plane.

A tire blowout is believed to have caused a rollover crash that seriously injured five members of a family, including three children, on Interstate 10 in Phoenix on Thursday morning. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the family's vehicle was going west when the blowout occurred, sending the vehicle through the median and into eastbound traffic. The crash happened near 31st Avenue about 9:30 a.m. Two adults were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center with serious injuries, Garcia said. The three children were taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

One man was killed in a crash on the westbound Long Island Expressway in Queens Thursday morning, one of many accidents that delayed traffic for the morning commute. Multiple vehicles collided in the inbound lanes near exit 31, at the Nassau County Boarder, just after a light band of snow moved through the region around 5 a.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. All westbound traffic was funneled into a single HOV lane as authorities investigated, causing miles of delays into Nassau County for hours.

Two people have been injured in a car crash in Ocala on Thursday morning after a pickup truck hit a power pole and overturned. SW 20th Street was shut down as police investigated the crash, which had two people trapped inside the pickup truck for hours. The crash occurred just before 5 a.m. and it took nearly two hours each to extricate both victims out of the vehicle. The victims were taken to Ocala Regional Trauma Center.
