A major crash in Genesee County's Davison Township has forced authorities to close I-69 between Irish and Belsay roads in each direction. That crash happened around 11 a.m. Thursday not far from Belsay Road. According to the Genesee County Sheriff's department, the truck was hauling some type of hazardous material. HAZMAT crews responded to the scene as the truck was later confirmed as hauling hydrogen sulfide gas. Authorities say I-69 will remain shut down in both directions between Belsay and M-15 until the bridge can be inspected for structural integrity. Due to the winds in the area, many of the businesses located southwest of the crash were evacuated, including a Meijer store and a gas station. The evacuation order was lifted around 1:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Officials had urged residents to stay indoors for their safety.
