The intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Lane has reopened to traffic after being closed for nearly seven hours because of a fatal crash that left two people dead. The crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. According to police, the driver of pickup truck was speeding southbound on Las Vegas Boulevard and rear-ended a moped stopped at a red light. Both people on the moped were thrown more than 100 feet. One person died at the scene and the other died at University Medical Center. A third car was also hit by the vehicles.

Two Los Angeles Police Department officers were in serious condition Monday morning after a crash involving their unmarked patrol vehicle and a sport utility vehicle in the Atwater Village area north of downtown Los Angeles. Four officers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two of those officers were taken to the hospital but were later released. Three people in the SUV also were hospitalized. The crash was reported at about 9 a.m. near Fletcher Drive and San Fernando Road, about six miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

A New Hampshire man has died in an early morning snowmobile crash in Barnstead. Authorities say Aaron E. Brown of Dover was operating a snowmobile on private property at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday when he failed to negotiate a turn in a trail and collided with several trees. Brown was wearing a helmet. Authorities say it appears that speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

An accident involving a school bus in Union County sent more than 20 students to the hospital with minor injuries, according to troopers and emergency responders. The accident happened at 7:27 a.m. at Whitlock Lake Road and Morris Farm Road near Jonesville, troopers said. Troopers said the 1988 Freightliner school bus was traveling south on Whitlock Lake Road, when it ran off the right side of road and hit a tree. Union County Emergency Services director Ronnie Robertson confirmed six students were taken to Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union.

Philadelphia Police are investigating a hit and run accident that left a pedestrian seriously injured in North Philadelphia Tuesday. It happened at 21st Street and Susquehanna Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Police say a woman, believed to be in her late 40's, had just exited a SEPTA bus when she was struck by a white Chevy Impala at a high rate of speed. The impact sent the victim flying nearly 30 feet before she landed in the street. She was taken to Temple University Hospital with serious head injuries.

A wrong-way driver was killed in a five-vehicle crash in northwest suburban Arlington Heights Monday afternoon. The crash happened about 12:15 p.m., when a 51-year-old man from Palatine was driving northwest in the southeast-bound lanes of Rand Road between Thomas and Dryden avenues, according to a statement from Arlington Heights police.

A 29-year-old man was killed Saturday in a rollover crash that shut down lanes of Interstate 57 on the city’s South Side. The man, driving in a 2000 Ford Explorer, was heading northbound on I-57 near 99th Street around 1:30 a.m. “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control, according to Illinois State Police. The veered right and struck the right side guard rail and rolled over, police said. The driver was ejected from the SUV and sustained fatal injuries. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

A New Hampshire woman is recovering from injuries suffered when her snowmobile hit a rock wall on Lake Umbagog in Errol. New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say 43-year-old Roxanne Bonney was traveling a high rate of speed across the lake when she struck exposed rocks and was thrown from her snowmobile. She was taken by ambulance to Androscoggin Valley Hospital for treatment. The accident happened at about 5 p.m. Saturday.

Officials don’t yet know how fast he was going, but 26-year-old Sergio Acero was riding his motorcycle fast enough around a curve to crash into a large concrete manhole cover. Chapel Hill police responded to a call that came in around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, and found Acero alive but severely injured along Estes Drive Extension near Seawell School Road. “It was a pretty bad crash,” said a Lt. with the Chapel Hill Police Department. “The motorcycle went one way and he went the other.” Acero died at UNC Hospital.

The driver of a stolen pickup was killed after crashing into power poles in Pittsburg on Thursday night and knocking out power to nearly 1,200 PG&E customers in the surrounding area, police and utility officials said. Around 11:40 p.m., residents in the 600 block of Rockspray Circle heard a vehicle starting outside their home and looked outside to see someone driving off in their truck, police said. Police said the residents tried to follow the driver in another car, but stopped after he began speeding at about 70 miles per hour on West 10th Street.
