A man is fighting for his life after a car crash on Roosevelt Boulevard in the Hunting Park section of the city.
Officials say one car struck another in the southbound lanes of the Boulevard near 9th Street shortly after 4 a.m. The collision caused the second car to strike a tree and a guard rail.
The male driver was trapped for about 10 minutes until rescue crews arrived. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.
The other driver was not hurt in the accident. Officials say charges are not expected.
A 40-year-old Lexington woman was killed early Sunday when she stepped into the path of an oncoming van on Preston Highway, police say.
The accident happened at about 4:36 a.m. on Preston Highway near Pinecroft Road when the victim was walking with several other people from El Rincon Restaurant and Bar, in the 8100 block of Preston Highway, a Louisville Metro Police release said.
The woman was identified as Felecia Burton, of Chippendale Circle in Lexington, by the Jefferson County Deputy Coroner.

The crash occurred when a semitruck carrying 71 cows collided with a pickup along West Yellowstone Highway near Six Mile road. Authorities suspect one driver failed to obey a stop sign, while the other was texting.
Tyler Larson, 29, was driving east on the highway in a semi hauling cattle when Donald Wade, 55, is believed to have pulled out in front of him. The two trucks collided, sending both into a dirt area off to the south of the road.
A Fairmont City woman was killed after her car hit the ConAgra Grain Elevator in Alton Sunday evening.
Authorities said 27-year-old Christina Martinez was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Equinox on W. Broadway toward downtown Alton around 5 p.m. when the wreck occurred.
According to witnesses, the car bounced off the grain elevator and back into the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Martinez was not wearing a seatbelt.
No other passengers were in the car.
An 18-year-old was killed and his 17-year-old brother was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening on an unpaved Clay County road.
Brandon Douglas Norman, 17, was driving a black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Louie Carter Road just before 7 p.m. He lost control on a muddy, dirt road, and the pickup left the road and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report. Troopers said the brothers were test driving the 1992 pickup that had recently been purchased by their family when they crashed.
