The accident happened at about 4:36 a.m. on Preston Highway near Pinecroft Road when the victim was walking with several other people from El Rincon Restaurant and Bar, in the 8100 block of Preston Highway, a Louisville Metro Police release said.

The woman was identified as Felecia Burton, of Chippendale Circle in Lexington, by the Jefferson County Deputy Coroner.

Burton was hit when she stepped off the curb into the path of a Mazda MPV van driving southbound, the release said.

The driver told investigators she did not see the woman but knew she had hit something. She stopped and called police when she realized she had struck Burton, the release said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 6:20 a.m., Carroll said. Toxicology results are pending but there are no indications that alcohol was a factor in the death, he said.
