A pedestrian was critically injured in a hit-and-run in Bellingham early Sunday. A suspect was later arrested. Bellingham Police say officers found a 25-year-old Ferndale woman at 1:47 a.m. at the intersection of E. Chestnut Street and Railroad Avenue. She had been hit by a car and the driver fled the scene before officers arrived. The woman was legally crossing a well-lighted street in a marked crosswalk when the suspect vehicle sped through the area and struck her.
Investigators in Dearborn are working to identify a man who was killed when his car was struck early this morning on I-94. The man was headed east near Greenfield Road when his 1996 Plymouth was struck about 3:05 a.m. by a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, according to Dearborn Police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the minivan fled but was caught a short time later by police. She and her male passenger were taken to an unnamed hospital with minor injuries. The woman’s identity was not released.
Israel Thornton, age 5, was running to catch a school bus to attend Village Prep School when he crossed Denison Avenue and was struck and fatally injured by a 2012 Kia Sorrento. Thornton was taken to a local medical center where he died. The vehicle's driver, 25-year-old Jerome Lee, fled and failed to stop and offer aid to the boy. Lee will be sentenced on March 5th where he will recieve as many as three years in prison.
