A man is fighting for his life after police say he ran into the street and was struck by a car.
Investigators say the 35-year-old man ran into the northbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard near Pratt Street shortly before 2 a.m. in the Summerdale section of the city.
As he was in the lanes, he was struck by a car that was driving by. The man suffered a severe head injury in the crash. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center where he is currently in critical condition.
Two people were injured in an accident in Jenkintown on Friday.
The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. and involved a Honda sedan and a box truck traveling in opposite directions on Old York Road.
The occupants of the Honda, a father and an 8-year-old child, were transported to Abington Hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the box truck was not injured.
While the accident remains under investigation, the cause does not appear to have been weather related.
A massive traffic pileup shut down part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Friday morning, as an estimated 50 to 100 vehicles crashed, flipped or spun out amid the slushy roadway — another impact of Thursday’s monster storm.
The main wreck occurred around 8:20 a.m. on a 3- to 4-mile stretch of the eastbound lanes in Bucks County, north of Philadelphia. A snow-related speed restriction forcing cars to go no more than 45 miles per hour had just been lifted at 6 a.m.
A section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Carlisle Interchange (Exit #226) and the Breezewood Interchange (#161) is now closed westbound due to a multi-vehicle accident involving two tractor trailers and two passenger cars at milepost 175.6. No injuries are being reported.
A woman called her father for help Tuesday morning after she was pinned underneath a car that crashed into her home in Arnold.
Sherry Ashbaugh, was released from Allegheny General Hospital late Tuesday afternoon.
"She was actually pushed to the back of the residence. She was underneath the vehicle. She was able to get herself out and crawl out of the front porch," said the chief of the Arnold Volunteer Engine Company No. 2.
Two teens were arrested Wednesday after a police chase ended with the teens crashing into the very pizza delivery driver they allegedly robbed and carjacked at gunpoint the night before, police said.
The delivery driver chased the teens down and tackled them after the crash in the Spring Garden area, Pittsburgh police said.
Two narcotics officers spotted a stolen car around 4:15 p.m. in Spring Garden and tried to stop the car, which was driven by North Side 15-year-old Carl English, police said.
