Investigations are under way after a Washington Township man was crushed in an industrial accident in Shelby Township today. Erik Deighton, 23, was killed at Colonial Plastics, according to township police and a company statement. “The Roberts’ family and employees of the Colonial Group Companies mourn the tragic death of their fellow employee and friend, Erik Deighton,” according to the company statement from Cheryl Paschall. “The company is conducting an investigation as to the cause of the accident. We have no further information at this time.”

Eight workers were seriously injured in a construction accident while working on a decrepit Brooklyn building Wednesday afternoon, officials and witnesses said. The men fell from the third floor to the first floor of 1916 Prospect Place about 1 p.m., Fire Department officials said. One neighbor says he warned the workers the house was unsound before they walked in Wednesday. Some of the injured were taken to Kings County Hospital, a department spokesman said. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Two workers were seriously injured after falling from scaffolding at a skyscraper under construction in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood Thursday afternoon, a fire department spokeswoman said. The incident was reported at about 2:20 p.m. at 350 Mission St., according to the fire chief's office. The two workers were installing scaffolding at the site when it collapsed, sending one worker falling 40 feet and another worker falling about 30 feet, fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said. They were both taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Talmadge said.

Two men were injured this morning in a construction accident in South Windsor. South Windsor Police said the injured men work for Folsom Construction, according to police, and they were on company property in the area of 140 Rye Street when the back of the dump truck went up into live wires. Emergency crews responded. The driver of the big rig was shocked when he got out of the truck and a coworker who went to help him was also shocked. A customer of Andrews Oil Company saw sparks from the wire and mentioned it to the company, which called 911.

A mechanic was crushed to death by a tractor in a workplace accident Thursday at a Volvo-owned construction equipment company in San Leandro, authorities said. The man was working beneath a front loader that had been lifted up on jacks in a yard of Volvo Construction Equipment and Services at 1944 Marina Boulevard, said Aisha Knowles, a spokeswoman for the Alameda County Fire Department. The vehicle slipped and fell on top of him around 9:30 a.m., Knowles said. Firefighters had to use a mechanical hoist to lift the tractor off the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was killed and another badly injured in an industrial accident at a granite company facility in San Francisco Friday morning, authorities said. City fire crews responding to a call around 10:15 a.m. at 1525 Cortland Ave. found two men trapped after a large slab of granite fell, pinning them in a container, said a San Francisco Fire Department spokeswoman.

A long-time Natick town employee was killed and a second town employee was injured Tuesday night while both were participating in the emergency repair of a water line, an incident that was witnessed by four co-workers and a Natick police officer on a paid detail, officials said.

State investigators say a worker was killed Friday morning at a Shelby industrial site when a pipe fell. Emergency crews responded to the site, which is currently under construction, around 9:30 a.m. on Plato Lee Road. The NC Department of Labor says the worker was an employee of United Mechanical Corp. in Charlotte. Investigators say the accident occurred when the cap from a concrete casting was removed, causing a 10-inch pipe to fall and hit the worker in the head. The investigation is ongoing.

A Baylor University stadium construction worker was killed and a co-worker was treated for hypothermia after an accident that plunged both into the Brazos River. Waco police said the two men were working on a pedestrian bridge over the river on Tuesday. They were pulled into the water when some construction equipment they were harnessed to fell from a floating dock. Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton says one man unfastened his safety harness and made it to the surface. He was treated and released from a hospital.

A man was killed in a workplace accident in Grayson County Wednesday morning. Dennis Carlie Johnson, 55, died around 8:35 a.m. at C&B Lumber on Turkey Knob Road in Fries. Johnson was trying to clear a jammed log on a conveyor belt when his clothing pulled him into the belt and pulley mechanism, Grayson County deputies said. Deputies found Johnson dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed in Roanoke.
