A Massachusetts tractor-trailer driver who crashed on a Vermont highway during a snowstorm and then stepped out into the roadway has been hit by another vehicle and killed.
Vermont state police say 45-year-old Lee, Mass., resident Robert Trombley was traveling on Interstate 91 in Fairlee on Friday morning when his tractor-trailer slid and hit a guardrail. Police say the tractor-trailer was stopped in the middle of the interstate, blocking both lanes.
A Lebanon man was injured in a crash near Lafayette Thursday afternoon.
The crash occurred on I-65 southbound near the 174 mile marker.
Officials say a gray 2003 Ford Taurus was southbound on I-65 when it traveled into the left berm. The driver then over corrected , crossed two lanes of traffic, and rolled onto the guardrail.
The driver of the car was extricated from the vehicle and transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital.
A stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is expected to remain closed until at least 10 a.m. Wednesday due to a fatal tractor-trailer crash that occurred Tuesday night.
A Turnpike Commission spokesman said the state police are conducting an accident reconstruction at the scene. He added that the Turnpike will remain closed between the Gettysburg Pike and Harrisburg West exits. The deceased driver has been identified as David E. Vanevery 70, from Reading.
A multi-vehicle accident has been cleared from Interstate 83 southbound in northern York County, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The accident was earlier blocking all lanes of southbound traffic between Exit 32 (Route 382) and Exit 28 (Route 295), PennDOT said.
Traffic cameras as of 9:15 a.m. Monday showed that traffic is still backed up considerably, but PennDOT said residual delays are to be expected.
The accident was first reported at 7:50 a.m. Traffic was at a near standstill and motorists were being detoured off the highway.
