Driver charged in Joliet hit-and-run, 14-year-old girl in serious condition

John Severson, 59, is charged in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 14-year-old girl in Joliet. The girl was crossing in the 1900 block of South Chicago Street, a four lane highway, from the Route 66 Plaza to the Pheasant Run apartments when she was struck by a truck at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Monday on South Chicago Street, also known as Route 53, and Pheasant Run Road, in Joliet. The 14-year-old was trying to cross the street to an apartment complex when police said she was hit by an SUV.

The Will County State's Attorney early Tuesday morning approved charges against the driver of a vehicle that struck a 14-year-old girl and drove off. The incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Monday on South Chicago Street, also known as Route 53, and Pheasant Run Road, in Joliet.
