Zelma Jane Wilkes, 66, killed, after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Shannon-Wenonah Road and Lakeshore Parkway in Birmingham.

A crash happened just after 1 p.m. in western Birmingham. Authorities said Zelma Jane Wilkes, of Bessemer, was driving her Lincoln Town Car north on Shannon-Wenonah Road.

Wilkes stopped at the Lakeshore Parkway intersection, but then pulled out into oncoming traffic, witnesses told Birmingham police. She was struck in the driver's side door.

Wilkes was taken to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead several hours later, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
