Homicide victim found near vehicle crash in Tuscaloosa.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide, the victim found on I 59/20 near two crashed vehicles. Authorities said 40 year old Fredrick Lee Blakely of Tuscaloosa was found dead with a gunshot wound in the Lakeview area of the interstate about 8:30 Thursday night.
They have arrested and charged with capital murder, 37 year old Roderick Dale Washington Jr with the crime.
Officers headed to that area because they received calls that shots had been fired. When they arrived they found two crashed vehicles, Blakely on the ground next to the vehicles and Washington injured from the crash. Blakely was pronounced dead on the scene. Washington was transported to DCH with minor injuries from the accident.
Investigators don't believe the men knew each other and all evidence, so far, points to only two people involved in the incident. Both men may have been driving at high speeds weaving in and out of traffic before the crash and shooting.
The Sheriff's Office is still searching for a motive but know weather didn't play a role. Right now investigators believe it was a random incident. They will be back on scene today.
