Anthony Shane Hurst struck and killed by SUV while crossing street.

Opelika police are investigating a fatal car accident.

Saturday evening around 8:30 p.m., Opelika police and the Opelika Fire Department responded to Waverly Parkway and Priester Road for a car crash. They found 42-year-old Anthony Shane Hurst had been struck by an SUV while crossing the street.

Hurst was transported to East Alabama Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The man was pronounced dead by Emergency Room physicians at 8:50 p.m.

The Opelika Coroner says the case will be presented to a grand jury but no charges are expected to be filed. He adds that alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident.

The case remains under investigation by Opelika Police and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
