5-year-old girl injured in Athens bike collision in Huntsville Hospital

A 5-year-old girl injured Friday night in a bicycle accident involving a van has been identified by Athens police as Jasmine Sawyers. Police said Sawyers was struck about 8 p.m. when she crossed in front of a Ford Windstar in the area of Madison Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. The driver of the van, who was traveling north on Marion Street, told authorities they did not see the child until it was too late. The girl was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, where she remains in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. A hospital employee declined to give information about Sawyers' condition.

According to Johnson, investigating officers were told a Ford Windstar van was going north on Marion Street, and as the van approached Ninth Avenue, the child on the bike crossed in front of the van. The van's driver didn’t see the child until it was too late, Johnson said.

Hello I am the five year old little girl that was struck by a van it has been 6 years now from the incident I am doing so much better I have broke my leg from the accident and I am 11 now but my leg is fine yet due to the incident I run very odd.thank you for the support.
