Police said an eastbound Buick LeSabre crossed the center line and hit a westbound Honda minivan. The crash caused the Buick to catch fire and pushed the Honda on the driver's side against a guardrail. Witnesses at the scene pulled the driver out of the Buick. The driver of the Buick was David Shots, 35. There were four people in the minivan; the driver was trapped inside, but the other passengers were able to climb out. Firefighters reported that when they pulled the driver from the vehicle, they lost her vital signs. She was Martha Radzinski, 66.
The fatal accident happened around 9:30 a.m. in the area of Cecil Ashburn Drive near Carl T. Jones Drive, near the Blevins Gap Nature Preserve. The four other people involved were taken to the hospital, one of them in serious condition. The wreck is still under investigation.
"We see the ambulances and a bunch of fire trucks always going this way," said Aubrey Dunn, who works in the area. "We also have customers who complain about turning left into here because of all the traffic."
