One pedestrian has died and one remains injured after being struck by a Montgomery city employee who was driving their privately-owned vehicle Wednesday morning, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials. Alabama State Trooper spokesperson Sgt. Steve Jarrett says the crash happened after 6 a.m. on Park Place near Jackson Hospital.

Donna Renee Murphy, 46, of Wetumpka was one of two people struck by a 2008 Chevy Colorado pickup truck at 6:08 a.m. Because of the driver's status as a city employee, the city requested Troopers take over the investigation. The driver of the pickup truck, identified only as a City of Montgomery employee who was off-duty, remained on the scene, according to State Troopers. Murphy was pronounced dead a short time later at Jackson Hospital.

(Source: WSFA 12 News) State investigators have released the preliminary traffic report on the deadly pedestrian accident near Jackson Hospital on Dec. 9. On Tuesday night, a number of grieving Jackson Hospital employees took their concerns about the safety of the area around the hospital to the Montgomery City Council. The women were not in the pedestrian walkway, which is located at Park Place and Hampton Street.
