Woman injured, taken to hospital, after her pickup leaves the icy 15th Avenue roadway in Anchorage, and crashes into a stand of trees.
Driver injured in rush-hour rollover crash on icy 15th Avenue.
A woman was injured when the pickup she was driving went out of control and crashed on an icy stretch of 15th Avenue near Merrill Field on Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. A dark blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling west on 15th Avenue near Sitka Street when it hit an icy patch, said Officer P. White of the Anchorage Police Department.
The truck didn't have studded tires or sandbags in the bed and started fishtailing, White said. It veered across the road and into trees off the opposite shoulder.
The female driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries, White said. No one else was involved in the crash, which closed one lane of traffic during the morning rush hour.
That stretch of East 15th Avenue is notorious for icy conditions, and crashes -- in December, two crashes involving multiple vehicles happened within hours of one another.
