Alaska State Troopers will continue to investigate the apparent hit and run that occurred along Healy Spur Road in Healy early Thursday morning.
A female, identified as Gitte Stryhn, 56, of Healy, was discovered deceased around 7 a.m. Thursday in a ditch along the side of the road by a coworker, said AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen.
Early investigation of the death has revealed Stryhn was riding her bicycle to work when she was apparently struck by an unknown vehicle. According to troopers, the vehicle then left the scene.
It’s unclear which direction the vehicle was traveling when Stryhn was struck, Ipsen said. Through interviews with coworkers, investigators believe Stryhn was struck close to 5 a.m., the time she was known to leave for work, Ipsen said.
