Snowmachine crash near Nenana seriously injures Fairbanks man

“Contento was located approximately 1 mile south of the confluence between the Tanana River and the Wood River near Nenana,” troopers wrote. “Weather, night operations, and river conditions prevented the use of AST assets.”

In an online dispatch, troopers wrote that they received a report at 9:55 p.m. Saturday that 65-year-old Gary Contento crashed his snowmachine about a mile south of the junction of the Tanana and Wood rivers.
Gary Contento, a man from Fairbanks, was seriously injured after he crashed his snowmobile near Nenana. He spent around 12 hours waiting for a rescue because of poor weather conditions in the area. An Alaska Air National Guard helicopter responded to the accident, picking him up around 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
