Driver charged in fatal crash

Troopers reported Duffy refused to say who was driving the vehicle when the crash occurred, but an off- duty nurse from Fairbanks Memorial Hospital who stopped at the scene to provide aid spoke with him before law enforcement arrived and told troopers Duffy had admitted being the driver.
Prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old Fairbanks man with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide for a single-vehicle collision that killed his girlfriend early Saturday. The man, Kieran Duffy, and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Amber Evans, were driving in a pickup when the accident happened near 12 Mile Village on the Richardson Highway shortly after midnight. Duffy was traveling southbound on the highway when he lost control of the vehicle and it crossed into the center median and rolled multiple times before ending up in the northbound lanes. Evans was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, while Duffy received only minor injuries. Evans was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Duffy was arraigned in Fairbanks District Court on Sunday afternoon.
