Fairbanks man arrested in chain of hit-and-run crashes

A 21-year-old man is being held for allegedly causing a series of hit-and-run collisions on Fairbanks roads during Tuesday rush-hour traffic, with Alaska State Troopers saying more charges are pending.

Shad Wood, of Fairbanks, was operating a 2008 Chevrolet pickup when he collided with “several vehicles” on the Johansen Expressway between Peger Road and University Avenue, troopers said in an online dispatch.

Troopers say Wood shortly before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday was driving north on Peger Road and struck the rear end of a taxi.
According to Anchorage police, Shad W. Wood was driving on Peger Road before 7:30 a.m. when he rear-ended a taxi cab. He left the scene of that collision and drove onto the Johansen Expressway where he then sideswipped two different vehicles. Investigators say that alcohol and drugs were not involved in these incidents. While no one was seriously hurt these collisions are still under investigation.
