North Pole man charged with DUI after crashing ATV at high school

A North Pole man was charged with driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed his all-terrain vehicle twice at North Pole High School and then ran from police early Friday morning. 
North Pole police responded to a report of someone riding an ATV on the North Pole High School's football field at 1 in the morning. When police arrived they found Robert Bernard Merriweather, 28, sitting on his still functioning but heavily damaged ATV near the student parking lot entrance. Merriweather would not answer questions and attmepted to flee the scene, crashing the ATV again before he fled on foot. Police found him at his home at 1:45 a.m.
