Woman hit by car in Ketchikan escapes serious injuries

A Ketchikan woman struck by a sedan Thursday night on the South Tongass Highway “went airborne” in the collision, according to Alaska State Troopers -- who say she didn’t suffer any serious injuries.

Pedestrian injured in vehicle accident

According to Alaska State Troopers, Donna Peterson was crossing the street on foot at about 5:15 p.m. when she was hit head-on by a northbound 2012 Nissan Altima driven by 23-year-old Amber Sieni of Ketchikan.
Donna Peterson was attempting to cross the South Tongass Highway from a bus stop when she was struck by a driver travelling north. Peterson hit the front windshield of the vehicle and went airborne, coming to rest in the southbound lane. She was transported to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center and later released after her minor injuries were treated. Police say that Peterson appeared intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Yes Donna Peterson was crossing the street at the bus stop at the bottom of Totem Row like she and many others have done since "The Bus" began the bus route service years ago. Traffic heading south bound had already stopped to allow her to cross. Donna says she looked both ways and seeing no car coming on the other side of the street proceeded to cross. The many witnesses who saw Donna get hit by Amber Sieni said it happened to fast for them to warn Donna before she was hit. The first impact was the fender then Donna landed on the hood. From the hood into the wind shield which was shattered, then flew over Amber's car and Donna ended up at least 20 feet from the initial impact and on the south bound lane. Donna just had major surgery on one knee which doctors say will take a year for full recovery. She is scheduled for a second surgery on her other knee in about two weeks. Donna was not intoxicated. You are not allowed on the bus if you are. Amber was heard by many witnesses crying and telling who ever would listen that she was only doing 45 mph. She was in a 30 mph zone. I wonder why she never noticed why traffic was stopped that was headed south and a person was crossing the street? Donna was seriously injured and will suffer for months to come while Amber didn't so much as get a speeding ticket. Did Amber get checked for any alcohol use at the time? To this date Donna has not received the troopers report. There are many things that should have been routinely done that were not and Donna and her family and friends want to know why. We will not stop until we find out how Amber can (let alone anyone) walk away like nothing happened and my daughter will suffer for a long time to come. We pray she doesn't have to many problems with the plate and screws in her knee and are thankful the other isn't as bad and Donna is still with us. We also pray all the truth comes out because right now it doesn't look like an official investigation was done. It really looks like Donna is not being treated fairly. Thanks for your time.
