Vehicle collision in Avondale leaves man, woman dead

Enriquez says a man and a woman riding in the rear-ended vehicle died at the scene. AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Maricopa County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man suspected of driving impaired, causing a crash that killed two people in Avondale. Villanueva rear-ended a vehicle, which then collided with a truck. According to deputies, speed and impairment were factors in the incident. Enriquez says Villanueva could face second-degree murder charges once his driving speed is confirmed.

The male driver and a passenger in the car that was rear-ended both died at the scene, Enriquez said. The victims were identified as Jesus Torrez, 21, and Guadalupe Gastelum-Suarez, 19, both of Tolleson. Villanueva, a passenger in his car and the driver of the truck were not injured.
