The cause of the collision, which happened just after 6:40 p.m., remains under investigation.

Mesa crash kills man, injures wife, 2 others, officials say

An adult male, 50, the driver of the Jeep, was killed in the collision. His wife, a passenger in that vehicle, was transported to a local trauma center and is in serious condition. Both occupants of that vehicle had to be extricated by fire crews.

Mesa fire Capt. Forrest Smith said crews from Mesa and Gilbert responded to the scene near 32nd Street and Baseline Road Saturday night.
One person has died and three other people were hurt, including a 22-month-old child, in a two-car accident Saturday night. No names have been released yet but police stated the 50-year-old driver of a Jeep died and his wife was sent to a local trauma center after their vehicle was struck by a pickup truck on Driftwood at Baseline. Two people in the pickup, a woman in her 20s and her young son, were sent to hospitals for precautionary reasons. The force of the collision caused one vehicle to crash into a nearby commercial building.
