A multi-car wreck on I-49 near Texarkana killed at least three people and shut down the interstate on both sides just after midnight on Tuesday. Police told CBS affiliate KSLA(link is external) in Shreveport, La., that in addition to the three deaths, there were at least seven injuries from as many as nine total crashed vehicles. The accident Fouke, Ark., began in the southbound lanes, and was followed by a separate crash on the northbound side. It happened just around 11:48 p.m. about 9 miles south of Texarkana. State Troopers say in addition to the deaths, 10 people were taken to the hospital and several others were treated on scene by paramedics.The first set of crashes involved 10 vehicles in the southbound lanes, according to state police. State trooper Jamie Gravier says they believe an 18-wheeler slowed down because of dense fog when a car rear ended them and set off the chain reaction that claimed 3 lives. One of the fatalities was a truck driver who may have gotten hit by a vehicle when he got out of his truck to try to warn others about the crash, according to state police.

The station reports that the first wreck happened in the southbound lanes and that the second wreck may have been caused by drivers in the northbound lanes looking at the other crash, but the causes of both crashes remain under investigation.

I can't believe that a professional driver,or person holding a commercial drivers license,would slow down ,under the minimum speed limit,on an interstate and think that's safe.bad decision on his,or her side,.alot of people are paying for that drivers mistake..because of his her bad judgement people lost there lives,..and they want to see who's at fault,the one that stopped on the interstate,in the middle of the night,with out warning,thats who..
