At least one person died when a vehicle went into the Old Salinas River in Moss Landing, in Monterey County, according to preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol.

The car occupants were Maria Vanessa Carrango, 35, and Esther Monique Espinoza, 28, both of Salinas. Carrango was reported as being the driver at the time of the crash.
