Waithanji allegedly crashed into a car driven by 74-year-old Richard Frost of Newport Beach, Edds said. When Frost got out of the car and tried to stop Waithanji from driving away, Waithanji allegedly ran over the victim and kept going, Edds said.

Prosecutors have asked for an increased bail from $1 million to $2 million, the DA's office said. Waithanji faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted on all charges.
