Jose Luis Barriga-Tovar, 35, 14-year-old daughter, killed, after their car collides with a pickup with Ruslan Glukhoy, 19, and Roman Gluckhoy, 19, on board, who were fleeing from police, and later arrested for murder, near Antelope Road in Antelope.

A high-speed chase down I-80 ended in a deadly crash in Antelope — with twin brothers now arrested on murder charges. The suspects — identified as Ruslan and Roman Glukhoy, both 19 — then took the F-150 truck and took off down I-80, hitting speeds up to 100 mph, until they ended up in Antelope. There, the suspects hit a car turning left near Antelope and Antelope North Roads. Two people were inside the other car at the time of the crash. Antelope residents Jose Luis Barriga-Tovar, 35, and his 14-year-old daughter, later identified as Anahi Tover, died instantly. A spokesperson with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department stated that the chase started because of a burglary in the Auburn area around 5:10 a.m. Deputies started chasing the suspects, but the suspect’s car allegedly drove directly at authorities. No one was hurt and the chase ended at the westbound I-80 exit at Horsehoe Bar Road in Loomis. But, their run wasn’t over. The three suspects all ran into the neighborhood, with two of them being able to get into a home along Becky Way and steal the keys to a truck. Paula Cook watched one of the suspects taken down in her backyard. “The police dog had him by the heels and was pulling him out under the swing. He was yelling, ‘Get your dog off me. Get your dog off me,’ then they handcuffed him and took him away,” Cook said. Roman was arrested shortly after the second crash in Antelope. Ruslan was arrested around 8:15 a.m. Officers were seen storming into a home, finding Ruslan hiding in the backyard of a nearby home. The third suspect — 21-year-old Yuriy Merkushev — was found hiding in Loomis. Due to the active search for the suspect, four schools in the area were put on lockdown: Barrett Ranch, Antelope Crossing, Antelope Meadows and Olive Grove schools. The lockdowns were lifted shortly after the suspects were caught. The two people killed in the crash were a man and a juvenile girl, authorities say. Roman and Ruslan are facing double homicide charges for the crash. Antelope Road near Antelope North will be closed for the time being, CHP says. Drivers should use Don Julio or Roseville Road as a detour. The sheriff’s department say a lot of factors go into determining whether to begin or call off a chase. The responding deputy has the call whether to begin the chase. That officer must take into account road conditions and where the pursuit is happening. A number of people, including the field supervisor, can call off the chase. It’s unknown if this chase was ever called off.
