The plane was heading from Chino to Big Bear City, according to FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Cory. Air traffic control lost radio contact with the aircraft shortly before the crash, she said.

Deputies responded to the crash site in the area of Blackwood Drive and Torrey Road and found the pilot and passenger. Both of them were alert and able to speak with first responders, according to Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Cindy Bachman.
