Accident Date:Thursday, September 18, 2014
Two passengers in the car died in the crash. "Judging by the debris, we believe he was driving at a high rate of speed," Russell said. Names and ages of the two female passengers killed have not yet been provided by police. The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. near South Grove Avenue and East Airport Drive, said Ontario Police Det. Bill Russell. The car jumped the center median, crashed into a wall, flipped, then hit a traffic pole.
Two female passengers, identified by friends as 16-year-old Valerie Zavala and Julie Salas, died at the scene. Both attended Chino High School, according to the school's principal. The tragedy comes as family and friends prepared to celebrate Zavala and her sister's 16th and 15th birthdays on Saturday.
The driver and male passenger were transported to a hospital with reportedly non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities don't know why the driver lost control of the vehicle. Alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.
