School buses involved in deadly Yucca Valley head-on collision(link is external)

San Bernardino County Firefighters were on the scene of a wreck involving two school buses and a passenger vehicle in Yucca Valley Friday morning. A person inside a passenger vehicle died in the head-on crash, according to the department's official Twitter account. Four students also suffered minor injuries, two were transported to a local hospital. The collision happened Friday morning at La Contenta and Yucca Trail.

There were about 70 students aboard the buses and those who were uninjured were taken to La Contenta Middle School. YUCCA VALLEY, Calif. (AP) San Bernardino County authorities say a pickup truck driver is dead and four middle school students have minor injuries after a crash involving two school buses and two other vehicles in the Mojave Desert community of Yucca Valley. Friday crash at La Contenta Road and Yucca Trail. Two of the injured students were taken to a hospital and the other two were released to their parents. Fire Department spokeswoman Tracey Martinez says the pickup driver was deceased when firefighters arrived after the 7 a.m.

Lawrence “Larry” Parker, 57, of Joshua Tree, was driving his 1993 Toyota Tacoma pick up truck westbound on Alta Loma about 7 a.m. Friday when a school bus, driven eastbound on Yucca Trail by Lars Dahlen, 62, of Yucca Valley, made a left turn onto northbound La Contenta Avenue, directly into the path of Parker’s truck.

I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of this man, he was a great person. I did not know him for very long, but I knew he was one to help as many people as he could. One of the people that would give you the shirt off his back if he needed too. My deepest sympathy, and  thoughts and prayers are with his family.
