Aptos Middle School today will allow students to stop by the library on campus to make cards for Andrew Wu, according to the school official, who declined to give her name. In addition, the school will also begin accepting donations that will go to the boy's family because they are in dire need of donations, she said.

Stop signs to be installed where child was killed by Muni train

A Muni train struck and killed a young boy on San Jose Avenue last month, and now the intersection will get a simple safety measure — one which some say may have saved his life.

12-year-old Andrew Wu was on his way to school and attempting to catch the Muni light-rail train at Lakeview and San Jose Avenues at about 8:30 a.m., when he was struck and killed by the already-moving train. Witnesses say they saw two cars nearly hit the boy as he was crossing San Jose Avenue, but as he maneuvered around the vehicles he moved into the path of the train, which he didn't see until it was too late. The train dragged him, and he was pinned underneath before eventually being pronounced dead.
